The mask and the mass
The President of the Lombardy Region, Fontana, Northern League, has issued an order whereby every Lombard who leaves the house, must wear a mask.
In the same hours, at the same time, Salvini, the Northern League leader, ordered to reopen the churches to grant prayer to the Italians.
Yet the Church has not advanced at all the need to reopen the churches and the Pope in his daily mass televised by Santa Marta, invites those who cannot physically, most of them, to communicate spiritually, knowing full well the restrictions and anguish of the faithful due of the virus.
Beyond the usual will to throw it away or better, in a permanent election campaign, it appears very complicated to combine and make Fontana’s order consistent with Salvini’s will.
We are faced with the proven proof that a political party cannot disincrust its initiative from a desire to distinguish, to differentiate itself from common and generally shared behavior, at the cost of contradicting itself, to preach frankly alternative solutions and behaviors. And to date neither President Fontana nor Salvini have explained to us how their solutions can be traced back to consistent behavior.
The reality is that neither, nor the other, comply with the indications of the World Health Organization and not even the univocal recommendations of our scientists and experts. They continue to sing, it would be said, to bray, out of the chorus with a serious goal of disorientation of the exhausted people, who have now understood that they have thrown it into politics.
One more proof that this emergency gives us for the future. Natural disasters, serious pandemics like this, should no longer be entrusted to the moods and feelings of a President of the Region or a political leader, but for the good of the people, entrusted to the competent people, those elected for culture and science, to whom knows and no longer to whom he would like. Then to national politics the task of concretizing and organizing the indications of scientists. For the rest, all lined up and covered, including Fontana and Salvini.
