E Conte visse a lungo, felice e contento.

The center right that is not there

The date of the referendum on the cut of parliamentarians is approaching and the horizon of politics is increasingly bleak, a harbor in the mists.

It is not that this referendum represents a novelty because Berlusconi has already passed and lost on a similar story in 2006 and with him in the center right proposing not only the cut of the parliamentarians but also an organic constitutional reform. Ten years later, Renzi undertook the constitutional reform and he lost the referendum ruinously, ending his experience as Prime Minister, leader and reference of a large part of the Italians.

Today, thanks to an “intuition” of the M5S, with a Pd first fiercely opposed who twice voted against but then went to the government, inexplicably converted, the Parliament approved the cut of the parliamentarians and now in September we will vote the confirmatory referendum.

The parties, almost all overwhelmed by the populist wave and a foolish will to simplify politics, hypnotized by the indifference of that sunset movement that are the grillini, are on the side of the irrational, crude, unjustified, dangerous cut of the parliamentarians.

Leaving aside the risks of an imbalance of the constitutional balances, quorum for the election of the President of the Republic, for the election and consequent composition of the Constitutional Court and so on, this time not even a constitutional reform is proposed but only the draconian cut of the parliamentarians .

Therefore, there is no juridical-constitutional justification for voting yes but for the opposition, for the center right, an infinite number of reasons for voting no. Beyond the meaning in itself of the decrease in parliamentarians, a hypothetical victory of the no, the rejection of the referendum would unequivocally mean a rejection for the M5S, for the government and the inevitable fall of the Conte government. Just as it was for Renzi and, in part, for Berlusconi who had already lost the elections before his referendum.

Instead, the victory of the referendum would scream victory above all, if not exclusively, the M5S which would tie the whole result, it would sterilize the probable catastrophic defeat of the regional ones, it would set the sails to the current majority towards the election of the new President of the Republic and towards a glorious end, in natural times, of the legislature. It is the Salvinian-Melonian opposition that will certainly win against the opposition for another two years, if not more.

But are those in the center right really so naive? Some probably do but it is certain that there are different projects and intentions in that coalition. Salvini prefers hard and wordy opposition to governing a complex situation that he is not even capable of interpreting, Meloni hopes that with the passing of months and years he will be able to replace in the hearts of right-wing voters a Salvini in waning phase, Berlusconi, to apart from his age, he imagines that he is still a reserve of the Republic and who knows if he is not called to shore up the government or to contribute to the choice of the new President of the Republic.
